Garrett Smith

Chairman & Co-founder

Garrett earned a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from Brigham Young University, during which time he performed overseas missionary and humanitarian service in East and Southeast Asia, as well as West Africa.  After graduation he served as a ground intelligence officer in the Marine Corps, conducting combat operations over multiple tours in Afghanistan.  His military service took him to India and Australia for joint training operations, and he continues to serve now as a reconnaissance officer in the Marine Corps Reserve.

After leaving active military service he worked in Beijing, China, before attending Stanford University’s International Policy Studies Program, where he is now completing graduate work concentrating on International Security and Cooperation.  He intends to grow Redstone into a meaningful and impactful service-oriented platform.

Garrett enjoys reading, writing, and adventuring around the world with his wife and children.

Chris Clark

President & Co-Founder

Chris The Team
Chris Clark served for four years with the Marine Corps’ 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, during which time he conducted two combat deployments to Iraq. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. After departing active duty service, Chris graduated with distinction from Stanford University in 2012 during which time he studied under Dr. Condoleezza Rice, earning his bachelors degree in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations.

After Stanford, Chris spent two year and a half years working on Wall Street for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs on the sales and trading desk. He also served as a staff non-commissioned officer and team leader at 4th Force Reconnaissance Company in the Marine Corps Reserve. He has been president of multiple veteran organizations and is a Hoover Next Generation Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. Chris has conducted numerous overseas humanitarian projects, including time in Central America and SE Asia. As a founding member of Redstone, he has chosen to pursue a career of service in order to impact the lives of veterans and disadvantaged populations overseas.

Chris enjoys studying foreign policy and economics, working out, hiking, and spending time with his wife Danielle.

Nate Smith

Director of Operations, Co-founder

Nate Bio 11 The Team
Nate served for close to nine years with the Marine Corps’ First Reconnaissance Battalion and an underwater demolition mine clearance task force from 2004-2012.  His overseas experience ranges from military combat operations to civilian humanitarian projects, including Fallujah and other areas in the al-Anbar Province of Iraq, the Horn of Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Australia, Tasmania, Bangladesh, Kuwait and Bahrain.  He separated from the Marine Corps as a staff non-commissioned officer, and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Iraq.

After departing active service, Nate began studying Political Science (IR) and Business Management at Columbia University in the City of New York. As a founding member and Director of Redstone, he intends on continuing his service in this new capacity.

Nate enjoys sports and exploring the culinary scene in Manhattan.

Derek Herrera

After graduating from the US Naval Academy in 2006, Derek Herrera served as a Marine Infantry and Special Operations Officer until November of 2014.  During this time he deployed to Iraq, Haiti, Afghanistan, and many other nations throughout the Middle East.  In June 2012, while leading his team on patrol, Derek was shot and paralyzed by enemy fire.  After he was medically evacuated he began the rehabilitation process and returned to work as a Staff Operations Officer six months after his injury.

Currently, Derek is studying at the UCLA Anderson School of Management where he is pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration, with certificates in Entrepreneurship and Marketing (Class of 2015).  He is the 2014 recipient of the John Wooden Global Leadership Fellowship and resides in San Clemente, CA.

Diana Sparagna

Board of Advisors

Diana is senior partner at the law firm Sparagna & Sparagna and has over 30 years of experience as a practicing attorney. She attended USC, Laverne College of Law, and Pepperdine University. Diana provides support to veterans including assistance with VA benefits. She co-owns the Coronado Firehouse Bar & Grill and has hosted numerous events for military charities. Diana and her husband Francis are both active in their community and have been steadfast supporters of the veteran community including Redstone and various veteran related non-profits.
